Assegai F1 (1961) Engine 1500cc Alfa Romeo Production 1
Built by South African engineer and racing driver Tony Kotze with a view to forming the basis of a four car Formula One Team.
Powered by a 1500cc Alfa Romeo engine, mated to a Hewland Mk. 6/8 gearbox and eith a weight of 490kg and a top speed of 160mph. The small low lines bear a striking resembleance to the shark nose Ferrari.
The team was to be sponsored by the Bond Tobacco Company and race as a Bond. The car failed to show early promise and the sponsor pulled out, leaving this car as the only example, the car went on to enjoy some sucess in South African National events.
Brought to England in 2000 by John Ferris it was completely rebuilt and has appeared at the Goodwood Revival meeting.
