Autocrat was established in 1911, based in Balsall Heath and Hall Green Birmingham. The company had its roots in the Birmingham cycle trade, and production concentrated on light cars up until the time of the 1st World War.
From 1919 they produced a series of 10 and 12hp cars, powered initially by Coventry Simplex engines, while the bulk of production(240) ereowered by Dorman (of Stafford) engines and to a lesser extent (30) by engines from Meadows (of Wolverhampton).
Later a spartan, sporty Mile a Minute model was also produced.
Autocrat built its own bodies and their cars had a reputation for being well finished.
The factory closed in 1926, and sales of the final cars were handled by Calthorpe.
