This is the first in a series of shots featuring Sam the snail. I came across Sam in the wilds of my garden. As he was not anywhere near my lettuce, I decided to follow Sam's progress as he slithered over and around a variety of natural obstacles. Of course, Sam moved at a snail's pace (I could not resist). The photo was taken in May 2011, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

I discovered this stag beetle hiding under a board in my garden. I understand that there are over 1,500 types of stag beetle. If anyone happens to know which species this fellow belongs, please let me know. Thanks. The photo was taken in May 2010, with an Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

This is a photo of ants herding aphids in my backyard pear tree. In some ways, ants herd aphids like we herd cattle except the ants never eat the aphids. Evidently, the aphids produce a sweet syrup which ants love and collect. In return, the ants protect the aphids. This is about the best magnification I can get with my humble macro lens (50 mm and 2x converter). The photo was taken in May 2010, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.
