This is a closeup shot of a Sierra Leone Touraco. It resides at the Bloedel Conservatory. Usually, these birds stay high up in the tree canopy making photographing them difficult. Fortunately, this fellow came down so close to me that it completely filled my lens, so I happily contented myself with a few closeup shots before we parted company. However, the light was very weak and the photo has a curious, perhaps interesting, feathery quality to it. The photo was taken in January 2010, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

This female orange bishop weaver is another resident of the Bloedel Conservatory. I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I find that the females are friendlier and easier to photograph than the males. I will add a photo of the mate in my next posting. The photo was taken in February 2011, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

This is the mate of the Orange Bishop Weaver I posted earlier. Both reside at the Bloedel Conservatory. The light was inconsistent and weak. If I find a better shot, I will post it. The photo was taken in February 2011, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.

This strawberry finch, otherwise known as a red avadavat or red munia, hails from India but resides at the Bloedel Conservatory. According to the conservatory's catalogue, "This is the only finch where males go out of colour when not breeding. In breeding season they become bright red with small white spots....very much like a strawberry." The photo was taken in January 2011, with my trusty Olympus camera. Enjoy.

I came across this beautiful Amazon Lily at the Bloedel Conservatory. This is a low hanging flower, so the shot was a bit tricky because of the weak light. The photo was taken in January 2011, with my trusty Olympus camera. Enjoy.
