Some of the most colourful birds at the Bloedel Conservatory are the rainbow finches. They come in various colours, with green, blue, or yellow backs and yellow, white, or black combinations in front. This particular fellow agreed to pose for me, but as you can see I seemed to be trying its patience. The photo was taken in September 2019, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Here is a shot from my butterfly archives. I took it during a visit to Victoria's Butterfly Garden. As the butterfly is in the shadows, this is a low light shot. Here is a shot from my butterfly archives. The photo shows a lovely monarch butterfly feeding on some jatropha flowers, which is a fairly common sight on the island. As I recall, the light was very bright, and I used a very fast shutter speed (I was trying for in flight shots :) ). The photo was taken in February 2018, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Here is another photo from the Maui archives. As I recall, I found this lovely fancy hibiscus growing in the garden just outside the front door of where we were staying. :) You can find an amazing array of hibiscuses growing in Maui gardens. Like protea, I have pretty well given up trying to identify the numerous varieties. To me, they are simply beautiful. The photo was taken in February 2017, with my trusty Olympus digital camera.
