At first I thought this was a blue snowball, but upon closer inspection I saw that it was just a chilly blue jay😀. The severe cold weather has moved on but it still felt like -25 F this morning for this fluffy blue jay.

This smart female downy woodpecker picked a branch where she could sit in the sun this morning. Woodpeckers usually hide on the side of a tree trunk but she didn't mind being in the spotlight on a frigid day.

Here it's departing Philadelphia, PA for the last time, en route to Mobile, AL, prior to being sunk as the world's largest artificial reef.
