ARR 4318 arrives Anchorage with something new for this photographer. Former KCS unit 3909 has been wrapped into ARR colors, kind of, see roster shot for variations. New number is 4130 and is second out in this northbound Seward freight.

When the Alaska Railroad purchased two SD70MACs from the KCS I was curious as to what number series they would be in. Well the wait is over as they are 4130 as seen here and the other is 4129. This view shows the slightly lighter yellow and what appears to me to be a slightly different font. Nonetheless the railroad will put these units to good use. I believe this was the first revenue run in the new skin.

UP MPHBO has just departed yard limits as it blasts through East Phippsburg on the ascent towards Toponas Summit. These searchlight signals date back to the mid-1970s when the Rio Grande installled CTC on the Craig Branch between Bond and Evans (Craig) as a result of the opening of several coal mines in the area. Today, despite only two trains a week on the branch and coal traffic on the verge of extinction, almost all of the DRGW-era searchlights besides a few intermediates west of Adams remain in operation without PTC.
