And the final South Shore shot of the day...CSS 2009 and 2008 are just west of Hudson Lake with a short train from Five Star...according to some weather data it was about -3 about this time...unfortunately for us we shot from this overpass...the higher up you are...the more wind you have to deal with...and wind on a cold day means windchill....
I'm happy to be home haha....

Maximum daytime heating has passed by now and shortly after I shot this guy I saw a reading of -12 on a local bank....
Just as the crew had made up their westbound train from Five Star back to Shops the dispatcher informed them they would need to run light to South Bend to break up snow pack on some of the crossings east towards South Bend...here are CSS 2009 and 2008 heading back to Olive passing through South Bend....
How often do the geeps get over here?

It warmed up to a balmy -8 or so by the time the crew set off their Amtrak cars back at Baily's and headed east with one car for Five Star....

-20 degrees farenheit...the most rediculous cold I've ever had to deal with when out railfanning...I'm amazed I didn't come home with frostbite....
This day gave me a whole new definition of turtle as well!
CSS 2008 and 2009 (who seems to like the cold as much as me!) pull a string of tank cars up the Lincoln Ave Yard leads to make up a short train for industries on the former Michigan Central here in Michigan City...they never made it onto Amtrak due to not being able to get the derail off!
