Carnasserie (ou Carnassarie) est un château construit entre 1565 et 1572 par les comtes d'Argyll, chef du clan Campbell our John Carswell, surintendant d'Argyll pour l’Église réformée et évêque des îles. Bien que construit à la mode médiévale, Carnasserie possédait tout le confort d'un édifice Renaissance. Il fut pris et détruit en 1685 lors de la révolte du 9ème comte d'Argyll contre James VII (Jacques II d'Angleterre). Il est géré depuis 1932 par "Historic Scotland".
C'est à Carnasserie que fut imprimé en 1567 le premier livre en gaélique écossais par John Carswell, une traduction du "Book of Common Order" de John Knox.

Duart Castle, construit au XIIIe siècle, est le château ancestral du clan MacLean. Entièrement ruiné et abandonné au XVIIIe siècle, il a été entièrement restauré en 1912 par Sir Fitzroy MacLean.
