On our big trip to Arizona in 1988, we looked forward to shooting trains on the Santa Fe. Unfortunately, one of the first trains we encountered was led by an SD40-2 that looked like it had made a few trips working as a helper in Oregon's Cascades. This westman was passing the airport at Kingman, Arizona on June 26, 1988.

The mixed locomotive consist was typical of what we would see on ATSF. In addition to the "snoot" SD40-2 on the point, there were a couple of flared SD45s, an F45, an SD45-2B, and a GE painted in the SPSF "Kodachrome" scheme.
