Shortly after 19.30 the dynamic duo returned north, thankfully with a decent load and without being bowled!
90036 & 90024 on 4S47, 19.13 DIRFT - Mossend.
Anyone contemplating coming here should be aware that the trackside vegetation is close to taking out the down slow - I'm on my steps on the footbridge - and that crossing the field to get here is quite difficult with shoulder high crops obscuring the footpath.

Back out to the WCML, a little north of Cathiron, for the early evening rush - or so I thought.
Here 66533 leads 4M93, 13.30 Felixstowe - Lawley St.
Next up were 4S45, DRS from DIRFT to Coatbridge, and 4M56, Freightliner 70 from London Gateway to Basford Hall. Unfortunately the DRS came on the fast line - closest and obscured by vegetation - and in doing so bowled the 70 trundling along the slow. Very very unhappy!!

Shortly after 90042, but on the up fast, came this pair with 4M25, 06.06 Mossend - DIRFT.
A pitiful loading, and in any case no-one ever gets a master shot around 14.00 at the end of June!

With the onset of Britain's heat wave, I tried my luck along the WCML yesterday afternoon.
Seen here at Cathiron just north of Rugby, 90042 fairly recently liveried into Powerhaul, leads 4L90, 13.30 Basford Hall - Felixstowe.

I had a ulterior motive for leaving the Cement Works at lunch time, namely the hope that 66711 would again feature on the afternoon GBRf intermodal to the east coast.
With gray 66747 inside, it is seen here passing Egleton at the west end of Rutland Water on 4L20, 12.35 Hams Hall - Harwich.
Whilst the empty flats at the front of the train are regretabIe, I was very fortunate here with the cloud shadow clearing seconds before pressing the shutter!
