The early promise of a sunny day soon evaporated, just like in the British East Midlands really! This interesting working followed 220 226 on what may be train 4047, Gera - Weischlitz, with a nice set of Reko coaches.

The banking loco on the train in the previous shot, hauled by 220 226 and thought to be D601 Erfurt - Chemnitz.

The diamond shaped Voroshilovgrad (Lugansk) worksplate is clearly visible on the bodyside between the windows and above the number. 232 569 is stabled on the left.

The tall yard lights were a very distinctive feature of the DR, and sadly this isn't the only case of one coming out of a loco in a picture!

If I remember correctly, this train stood on the outside platform of the station with the loco in shadow, so we wandered up the side of the track, fortunately without being challenged.

Again a guess, but this may well be D601, Erfurt - Chemnitz, with a lovely rake of DR express coaches.

Back to 1992 and some pics from a long weekend in the former DDR, in the company of MLRail.

I've made a guess at the workings, and think this may be D1403, 07.51 Leipzig - Saalfeld, seen departing south shortly after 09.00.

The impressive overall station roof bears the inscription "Erbaut 1911".
