A set from an autumn Saturday in 1995 along the Western Region mainlines out of London.

I came across this by accident, it's a view that has, literally, haunted me in my mind for years as I've wondered if it was in my imagination. I've a feeling I did another trip here, but who knows?

Taken from the roadbridge just east of Hayes & Harlington, this HST is heading into London, fortunately on the up slow. The station can be seen in the distance behind the train.

The bridge here opened in September 1992 as a direct dual carriageway route across this part of west London, but seems to hardly feature in pictures I've seen. It wouldn't be much use now for photography because of the electrification.

A quick drive down the M4 got me here, on the Berks & Hants a little to the west of Southcote Jn.

Taken the weekend before the clocks moved, I'd hoped this would be better lit at the front, but sadly not.

It is the long running Theale - Robeston Murco empties, which my copy of Freightmaster for the period tells me should have departed at 12.25, and is seen here plausibly at 12.45. This ran eastwards to start with, then via Reading West to the GWML.

It was a short drive from the Berks & Hants to here, on the GWML to Bristol and Cardiff. Another much loved location sadly lost to overhead wiring!

There were two southbound afternoon liners booked along here, and I'm assuming they ran in the correct order, so this would be the 12.10 Lawley St.- Southampton.

The Rvier Thames runs somewhere behind the hedge at the back of the field on the right.

These units looked very attractive when new and clean in their Network South East livery.

Seen here on what is almost certainly a Paddington - Newbury service.

The timing for this suggests that it is the 13.25 Paddington - Penzance, but this is not certain.

These Inter City liveried HST's were commonplace in many parts of the country at this time.
