The majesty of Dolomites in one photography.

Ten years ago Montanas Rail Link (MRL) had the largest fleet of SD45's on the US rail network, now alas there is just a single survivor, number 355. She is seen here in a photograph taken from the end of Waterworks Hill in Missoula. Looking down from my lofty perch at the eastern end of the depot a pair of SD45's can be seen in this 2018 view. Number 355 on the left close by the entrance to the turntable is the lucky survivor whilst number 346 seen on the right of the image was dismantled in the MRL workshops in Livingston in December. The reason for their scrapping is no doubt the BNSF acquisition of MRL (1st Jan 2024) and their wish to standardise their locomotive roster.

No idea why I'm posting this now. Other than I am quite fascinated by the shape of these fields above Wolfscote, and those trees! Sadly, two of which are no more. The closest I've ever got to seeing an inversion in the White Peak dales. Happy BH Monday 😊
