Earliest known settler, built his log cabin near this site in 1840. He leveled both sides of the river's banks & established a fording place across the river known as Hunter's Ford. John Leiter's purchased the land in 1845 & it became known as Leiters Ford. Other early settlers in 1844-45 were Samuel Shadel, Jacob Shadel & Henry Ginther.

Aubeenaubee Township was settlerd by the Pottawatomie Indians, & Leiters Ford was just a trail along the Tippecanoe River.
The Township was named after that Potawatomi Chief Aubbeenaubee.
The original ford (called Hunter's Ford) was established by William Hunter in 1840 on the south bank of the Tippecanoe River where he cleared shallow areas on either bank to create a crossing for the river & the settlers that would follow. This same ford was then sold to John Leiter in 1845. He then renamed the settlement Leiters Ford.
