This lady worked at the Genesee Living history museum in western New York State. I believe her day was spent on her feet giving talks about the different herbs that were used in the time period and what they were used for. From the point where she worked to the employees gate was a very long way, perhaps a quarter of a mile even. We were sitting on benches outside an old store waiting for the little buggy that would take us back to the main gate. It had already passed us by twice being too full to take more passengers so there were very few other people around except for those employees who were leaving their roles as living history interpreters and going back to the "real" world. I took a lot of photos of this lady but only this one showed how she must really be feeling. At one point as she came closer she glanced up and gave me a wry little smile. I will share that portrait of her too at some point. Off to Roanoke this morning with friend Anita! :)

This is the same lady from yesterday's post. As she came closer to us sitting on our bench she looked up and saw me taking her picture. I am not sure if this was a smile that acknowledged I had caught her or one last feeble show for the "tourists" benefit. On she trudged to the employees entrance which was just past where we sat. I think I admire this lady very much!

A view of the American Falls from the Canadian side at night. That is the Rainbow Bridge crossing from the USA to Canada. The American Falls have red white and blue lights, not sure if they are ever changed, but the Canadian side uses lots of different lights on Horseshoe Falls...... It was a bit rainy this night but still beautiful!

The Genesee Museum is a living history museum near Rochester New York. I've been there three times and see something different every time. One of the big attractions for me this year was a group of people dressed in period Bavarian Alps type costumes playing Alpine Horns. The sound was just glorious! This lady was inside a period log cabin and was preparing some type of beans for cooking. It was very dark inside the cabin. All of the buildings in this village were brought from all around the state and reassembled to preserve them and for educational purposes. We spent the whole afternoon here and did not see but about 1/3 of everything! :)

In the colder regions funerals often had to wait until warmer weather before graves could be dug so the deceased would be placed in holding vaults. This is the backside of what I believe is the holding vault in the Batavia New York cemetery. This cemetery opened in 1823 and contains over 8,000 graves, mostly from the 19th century. In 2002 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's all very dark and Gothic looking and the trees are very large keeping everything well shaded and dark looking. I have relatives here.
