This was taken at the Kale [fort] in Van, overlooking Van Lake looking west into the sunset.
Sadly, a few weeks after this was taken, there was a devasting earthquake in the Van area.
[Note: It's the 'rainy season living near the rain forest' in the Pacific NW, so its time to do some work in the archives =:-]

So, you head out and get to Kars, Turkey. Ask around. Bring your photo gear. Wind up in Ani.
It's 12:00 PM and the worst lighting.
The location is remarkable; seems that there is debate whether this area is 1,200 years old, or 900 years old.
Whichever, the architecture is beautiful. Armenian churches are lovely. A 'big guy' architect from Armenia supposedly was called in to help with earthquake hit Hagia Sophia in 'stambul.
This is in the spirit of the Holy Week.
