Caused by the driver of an electric train from Bury running through a signal at danger and colliding with another train which resulted in the leading car of the emu going through the bridge parapet as shown...the driver and 9 passengers were killed and 58 others injured..Saturday Aug 15 1953

These 2 pictures show the aftermath of a runaway DMU that went through the stopblocks at Royton ending up crossing a road and demolishing a terraced house....unbelievably the driver survived although badly injured...Feb 1961

DP2 after colliding with some derailed wagons of the Cliffe-Uddingston cement train just south of Thirsk on July 31 1967..seven of the 14 coaches of this Kings Cross-Edinburgh train were derailed with 3 being cut open lengthways ..7 persons lost their lives but the driver and secondman were uninjured.Unsurprisingly DP2 never ran again.

EE Type 1 D8010 at Milton Malsor when involved in the clear up of a derailed freight train near Roade Cutting on Apr 20 1967...the actual derailment of a down train occurred just out of the cutting but wagons and debris were strewn around for nearly 2 miles as this scene shows..also an up electric unit collided with the debris deflecting two coaches down the embankment..21 passengers were injured.
