The spoil tips extend a long way out to the south of the quarry. Every bit of good slate came from deep in the holes in the belly of the mountain and were lifted hundreds of feet up to the edge. For every tonne of material slate worth keeping there were nine tonnes of waste which was trundled out to the end of the spoil heap and tipped. Old slate carts lie scattered around the quarry, many having been pushed to an edge and let go in wanton abandonment to smash at the bottom. These ones lie upturned and rusting, wheels removed, far out on Garret B level overlooking the Llanberis Pass

A view of the cement works from Mam Tor on a lovely morning. It has been a while since I have been to Mam Tor but I have passed it many times.

A very cold winter day and the Tarn here at Wise Een was completely frozen over. As I was about to pack up and leave this mysterious cloud formation started to take shape, so I hung around until it drifted into this position.
I was a little disappointed when I got here as a lot of the fir trees on the side of the Tarn had been felled at the end of this summer, making it less photogenic. I was actually standing on frozen branches and trunks of those trees when I got to this spot!
