I began the New Year today by listening to new music- music I had never heard before, and music that just seemed to cast a haunting spell over me all day long.
What a beautiful spell to be under, and for me- I cannot think of a better way to start a new year than to be inspired by beautiful, melodic, passionate, and moving music.

Tonight my mid drifts to a friend of mine whose guitar of choice was an Ovation guitar like this very one in my hands. Every time I play it I think about him. He would have turned forty this year, but instead he chose to take his life while in the room next to me- sad and depressed from the loss of his mother and the state of things in his life. I miss him greatly…
I have my memories with him- I remember the good times and try to forget the bad things. Moreover I think to people who are in my life right now- still here, and going through a hard time, and how I wish I could help them.

Long ago I started collecting miniature bottles of alcohol from the different places that I have been to around the world. I really have no idea why I started it, but tonight I came across the collection stored away in a box and I began to reflect on all of the places I have been to and the memories attached to my adventures in this world…
This bottle of Crown Royal was the beginning of my collection, started on January 1, 2000 in the wonderful city of Las Vegas. Few cities would have been a better place to be for ushering in the new millennium, and truth be told I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere besides Las Vegas. I have so many fond memories of that trip and how my life really began again, starting with that trip: the people I was with and the way my life changed.
I am perhaps overly sentimental, but it’s those kinds of memories that can never be taken from me. It’s another reason why I love doing this 365 project, because it’s a daily journal of my thoughts and adventures through this so-called crazy life. I’m proud that I live with sentiment, now I just need to turn up the passion and I’ll be on top of the world…

Ten years ago today, I stepped into my first job at an inbound customer service call center, and my, my what a journey it has been.
At the time I took the job I was in dire straits, desperate for income to beat down the wolves at the door. I took a job that I thought would be easy, but found it to be anything but that. Anyone who thinks that inbound customer service is as simple as just talking to people all day has never worked in a call center. Trust me.
I met some amazing people and put in my dues, but after a year I wanted to serve a higher purpose, so I took a leap of faith and moved to a company in the health care field; I thought I could use my passion to help people in areas that really mattered: the health and wellness of people in America. It was a field I knew absolutely nothing about, but I knew I wanted to help- I wanted to somehow payback the kindness to the strangers on the other end of the phone… and so my career took some major twists.
Within a year I was in a non-production role off the phone. Within another 8 months I was in a leadership position as a supervisor. A few years later I accepted the position of a business manager here in Dallas. I manage a call center with almost three hundred agents and nine supervisors under me, during one of the most challenging times in the health care industry.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that walking in that call center, earning $7 per hour would lead to the career that I have today. Never under estimate the power of a leap of faith, or assume that a small step cannot lead to a long, winding, and very rewarding journey. You certainly get out of it what you put into it…

I have completed many, many interviews in my career. Since taking this position as manager, I’ve easily completed over 1,500 interviews and looked at as many resumes if not more. Today’s adventures certainly take the cake as far as the strangest interview I have ever conducted. Ever.
I know my job is stressful and very, very fast-paced, but it’s the crazy things that happen that make it all the more interesting to me.
