I started drawing out the plans for one of my next building projects: a two-sided rolling cart that will hold my air compressor and have several sliding drawers for different tools and miscellaneous parts.
It may seem silly and counter-productive to have multiple projects going on at once, but I am actually going to use this project to not just clean up and organize my garage, but to also learn some best practices that I can apply to my other Legacy Project that I have going on.
Win-win!

My handles came in that I will use on my rolling tool cabinet. I will use these on both the drawers as well as the cabinet doors; a little bit of modern style amidst a man’s work cave!

I spent a good deal of today writing down the plans for the Rolling Tool Cart, step by step, so that I can think through each of the cuts and measurements, etc. Taking my time and really thinking through a project like this really helps me see it in my head before I actually do it- and I get to work out more kinks in the plan that way I think.
If all things work out, I am going to make a huge dent in the project this long weekend. I am hoping to finish at least all of the main cuts and staining. I doubt that I will be able to finish it all, simply because the stain takes a bit of time to dry and set, plus this will be a lot of wood to sand in between coats- but it’ll be fun!

I had to build a couple support structures that I will need for this project, and it also was a perfect time to try out my new Kreg Saw guide and to test the repairs to my Ridgid power cord that I did a few weeks back. I will need to use the Kreg Saw guide a lot because the table saw is limited by wide cuts. It can cut wide, but not as smooth and exact as I like.
Both tools worked perfectly so that is a good sign for this weekend’s work!

I started cutting the pieces to the rolling tool cart today. This photo captured the exact moment I found out my grandson was born. That pretty much trumped my excitement over building this cart, but what a great combination for a guy: building in a workshop + grandson being born!
