Found this morning at Fort Baker, Marin County. The animal has been stranded for 2 days, is being watched by the Marine Mammal Center and is said to be alright. As there is little traffic at this beach, it has been decided to leave him/her and hope that he/she will find its way back out to the Pacific. The green stripe was put on by the MMC to mark the animal (green because it was found on St Patrick's Day........) The ranger named her "josephine Baker"......

As the ranger and i were picking up debris that had washed up on the beach, the seal tried to follow us, barking, obviously looking for some sort of company. a lonely littlething , I just hope she/he makes it......

UPDATE: I called the the Marine Mammal Center here in Sausalito and was assured that they would send someone out tomorrow to check on her - it's a girl. They also told me that she is about 10 weeks old, is well fed and can live off her "fat" for a few days.
