Today we went to the Large Animal Research Station at UAF

These are Reindeer Bulls with full head gear to be ready for the rut. They'll lose this impressive head gear by early November. The unpregnant females lose their by early December.

So clearly, Rudolf is a pregnant female.

Still working my way thru the photos of our trip to Unalaska and back. Took this weekend off to go to Denali...all that did is add another 1000 shots to my back log. But for those who know how hard I've been looking for a lynx, I found one ready for it's close up.

This is the north side of Akutan Island on the Bering Sea side just as the sun was rising. The clear skies were a great omen for our stay in Unalaska.

The northern hawk owls at Creamers were busy hunting. i'm hoping they're feeding the owlets. I think this is the male, I saw him catch 2 voles in about 45 minutes. Then he flew to a stump, different stumps within 50 feet of each other. He tore apart the vole and let a great deal of it fall to the grass below. I'm hoping that's feeding the owlets.
