Two smaller bears spar over a prime fishing hole at McNeil River, site of the largest concentration of bears in the world. 10 years ago, the bears would number around 80 at peak, in recent years due to lower runs of salmon the peak is now at 40, but still quite a sight.

This bear has been named "Plunger" for his unique fishing style. Rather than take a position on the bank, he swims out into the pool below the falls, pikes down and chases the fish underwater. From my observation he had a much higher sucess ratio that the shore bears and didn't have the competition.

This sow with three spring cubs was running from a large boar. Her escape route took her to within 10 feet of me. Woofing and barking all the way.
