The Great Western, then owned by Bass Mitchells & Butlers Ltd., viewed from Bailey Street on 13th January 1980.
The pub was soon sold to current owners Holden's Brewery of Woodsetton, Dudley and was Grade II listed in 1992. It is a long standing entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and a former CAMRA National Pub of the Year.
