A male orange-tip (Anthocharis cardamines) having a good old feed on a self-set patch of brassica. I think that oil-seed rape was grown here last year, but can't be entirely sure.

The lavender is a 'freebie' having self-set in a tiny gap between path and our house wall. This week it was been covered in small tortoiseshell and meadow brown butterflies until yesterday when they all suddenly stopped visiting. Odd, since the bees still visit in profusion.

My daughter and son-in-law gave me a photography voucher for my birthday last year, and 14 months later I used it!
The course that I chose was a dragonfly workshop day spent at Wicken Fen, which had been all booked up last year. So I rented a 70-300mm lens for the weekend (since my lenses are an 18-140 and a 90mm macro) and headed off yesterday armed with it.

It was a very enjoyable and informative day, where everyone else attending had kit worth at least 10x the value of mine ie >£5000 vs ca £500 (I jest not!!).

Anyway I got a few half-decent shots including this Ruddy Darter which very obligingly kept returning to this rail - and at a time when the rest of the group were elsewhere!
Go big and take a seat......
