More often simply called West Burton Falls, this small fall is set on the edge of one of the Yorkshire Dales most beautiful villages. Though small, it doesn't lack drama when there is a good flow and it sits in a beautiful and accessible location.

Banishead Quarry near Torver with its lovely waterfall, created when two local lads diverted the beck which flows right to left beyond the pit..

Getting the shot was surprisingly difficult since it was blowing a (cold!) gale straight into my face and long exposures lacked sharpness.

And, as I found out when looking into the history, it's a well-known spot for wild swimming and cliff jumping - I think I'll stick to walking!

Letch has a second, much more wholesome, meaning in Northumberland - a stream or a pool found in boggy land. This small cascade is alongside the Alnwick-Rothbury road just below Corby's Crags nr Edlingham, and will join Edlingham Burn at the foot of the hillside and then onward and downwards to flow into the River Aln.
Just 5 min drive from the house.
