Castlerigg Stone Circle plus lots of visitors (more out of shot) on a sunny February morning.
Standing on a slight prominence, Castlerigg is surrounded on all sides by the fells of the northern Lake District. This is the view to the south-east with High Rigg beyond the circle and the Helvellyn 'ridge' forming the skyline. Helvellyn itself is the most faintly visible peak about 1/4 of the way in from the right (above the stone which is perhaps the most pointy, look for the note on the pic).
The circle itself is about 100 ft in diameter with a small rectangular inset (thought to be a later addition) giving about 50 stones in total. There's an aerial view (scroll down on the right) here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlerigg_stone_circle#/media/File...(SimonLedingham)Jul2005.jpg.

Bushmead Priory, Bedfordshire.
Not an easy place to visit due ti restricted opening times. We finally managed to get there just 3 months before saying 'Goodbye' to Bedfordshire! We couldn't have had a better day with glorious hot sunshine, the start of a long hot summer.

Took a trip down to the Tyne yesterday & decided to visit Tynemouth Priory as part of the trip. It turned ot to be a very short visit as it was freezing with a north/north-easterly wind. The temperature read 7C, but with the wind coming over the sea the wind-chill was significant!
The light was also a totally flat grey so the camera didn't even come out of the car (we'll return on a better day be it sunny or with a sea-fret, in fact anything other than flat grey!).
But the sea-weed/algae line on the pier caught my eye.....
Looks better big even tho' a phone shot.

Beautiful but breezy.
The remains of Dunstanburgh Castle stand on the Whin Sil, formed of very hard igneous dolerite rock. A number of the north's outstanding structures are also built on outcrops of the Whin Sill eg Bamburgh & Lindisfarne Castles and the most spectacular sections of Hadrian's Wall. In addition the Farne Islands, High Force & Cauldron Snout waterfalls, Holwick Scars and the ampitheatre of High Cup Nick are all examples of Whin Sill dolerite.
