We woke up today (Sept 28th) to the news that the famous Sycamore tree which gives its name to Sycamore Gap on Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland had been cut down overnight.
The police have arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of criminal damage. He's probably safer locked up at the minute, such is the real anger up here in the North-East at this mindless and irreparable act . www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-66952980
Whilst this shot was taken just over a year ago, it wasn't properly processed until today so I hope that the admins of the 100x 2023 group will look sympathetically on my adding this to the group given the circumstances.

The sun about to appear over the lovely, lichen-encrusted stone wall bordering the Alnwick Castle golf course.
Originally this was the wall around the grounds of Swansfield House, the home of Henry Collingwood Selby, the agent of the Duke & Duchess of Northumberland.
Following Selby's death in 1839 the house became the property of the Northumberland family until its demolition in the 1970's when a new house was built and a large section of the grounds became part of the Alnwick Castle golf course. Hence the posh wall 😄

For whatever the day throws at you. And it threw a lot at various points, yet in-between we experienced some gorgeous sunshine & wonderful autumn colour.
Heading south over Wooler Common towards Carey Burn bridge. Hart Heugh (321m, 1053 ft) is in the sunlight.
