I wanted to blow some new life into my old 'plane project' making the whole thing more playable. This meant making it more simple, rigid, and stable but this also meant making a whole new base and plane. I chose the Ansaldo because I always found it to be an interesting and underrated plane. Next to that the low mounting of the propeller and high fuselage left enough room inside for the gearing of the prop and hinging to allow the whole plane to roll. The lack of stagger en swept wings also made for an easier and sturdier construction.
I'm quite happy with the result. The plane looks good, has enough details and is yet sturdy and simple in construction. The rolling-steering mechanisms works like it should and is (unlike my previous attempts) rigid and precise. Adding the differential allowed for less slip at the wheels and a better rotation transfer to the propeller.
Some more info on the plane:
The Ansaldo A.1 'Balilla' was the only fighter designed and produced by Italy during WWI. Due to it's late introduction in 1918 it saw very limited action and was mostly used by Ansaldo in promotional and publicity activities as flying displays in major Italian cities.
After the war it did see combat action with the Polish and Soviet air-force during the Polish-Soviet war.
About the video; I apologize for the bad quality, I do not yet own adequate equipment.. next to that, holding my camera while moving the whole thing doesn't rally help showing the smoothness and playability of it, I might redo the thing in the future..

This is a more accurate and detailed (and more fragile) version of my Me262. It has a different cockpit, added dihedral and landing gear. The balance of this model is almost right, It's able to stand properly on its tricycle landing gear but it tips back on it's tale with the slightest touch :p
