This bodice was first used by Ingrid Bergman in the film "Gaslight". It was reworked by Irene Lentz by covering the base garment with a original 19th century paisley shawl and the addition of fur trim for use in "The Great Sinner"

The black dress Ava wore in "The Great Sinner", no details were given concerning construction. Labels throughout the museum are haphazard.
Placed on display recently are sketches of this dress and several others by Virginia Fisher, who worked for MGM designer Irene Lentz. Ms. Gardner had a eighteen inch waist.
