Wedged between a 1940's bank and a recent mega cinema is this 19th century row house. The conversion of the first floor and basement appears to have been done in the early 20th century. The restaurant that was there for quite a while has closed so space is available.

The hospital was established in the 19th century by the Societe Francaise de Bienfaisance, and successively occupied buildings on West 14th Street and West 34th Street. It soon outgrew those facilities, and in 1928, then-Mayor Jimmy Walker laid the cornerstone for the facility on 30th Street.

The GAP across the street used to be a Woolworth's. They took up the whole building. It is now now broken up into several retail spaces. I don't see the building lasting that much longer a full block frontage on Eight Avenue is a tempting parcel.
