Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge. This is actually a "pumping station." In the early 1900's, the lake was bought by a man who pumped out 800,000 gallons of water per hour, draining 100,000 acres of water to plant sweet potatoes. In 1934, the U.S govt. bought it back, reflooded it and turned it into a National Migratory bird flyway. To soften its image of pumping, the station is made to look like a "lighthouse."

Drayton Hall is the oldest, original plantation in the South. All others were burned during the Civil War. This one survived because its owner placed yellow flags around the house (a sign of small pox) and told the Union troops that he was treating small pox patients in his home. The troops would not go near it and it survived intact.

People always ask, “What made Wes want to start a cupcake stand?” A self-proclaimed entrepreneur since birth, Wes Hurt naturally wanted to own a business, but not just any business, something new, something a little off the wall.

The inspiration came from a trip to New York and a random visit to the famous Magnolia Bakery. After arriving back in Austin, Wes bought an old beat up snow cone stand, renovated it, and the rest is history.

In March 2007, Hey Cupcake! opened for business. Wes has since hired two talented bakers, but he still likes to get down & dirty in the kitchen from time to time.
