This fine rare Royal Tiger was new to West Riding, in 01/1988. Two of the batch of eight, 46 and 47, were delivered in Rapide livery for use on the 564 service. The other six, including this, were delivered in Ridings Travel livery mainly for tour, excursion and other work although some were used from time to time on duplicates and as replacements for when 46 or 47 were unavailable. Built at Workington, it is seen here climbing A5094 New Road, Whitehaven, and is heading for the former Leyland National plant at Lillyhall, for a photoshoot during the excellent 'Leyland National 50' celebrations that were organised by the Workington Transport Heritage Trust, to commemorate fifty years since the entry into service of the first National to be constructed at the Lillyhall plant that is situated near Workington. The first service operated was a Whitehaven town service to Lowca by Cumberland Motor Services, 350, ERM35K, a 1151/2R/0401, dual-doored bus. That was new in 03/1972, with the production number being 00005. There were several non-Leyland National vehicles here that had brought enthusiast groups with them. This photo was taken on the second day of the event for the public on 01/05/2022. © Peter Steel 2022.
