This all-Leyland trolleybus(LT Class K2) entered service in 03/1939 and was withdrawn in 1961. It is seen here on display at the London Transport Museum, Covent Garden, in 07/2000. The vehicle hidden behind with the 'face' is preserved London Transport 89Q, DGJ181, an AEC Mercury Tower Wagon. Tower Wagons were used on tram and trolleybus systems for the maintenance of overhead wires. This purpose-built tower wagon was new in 1937. Its body design allows space to house equipment and accommodate a crew. When working up on the telescopic tower, communication with the driver was possible by ringing a bell. After the withdrawal of the trolleybuses in 1962, this vehicle was converted to a breakdown lorry. It was bought and restored back to its former glory by the London Transport Museum in 1985.
