Also known as Kirkby Stephen(West) Station and situated on the Settle - Carlisle line, this view was taken from the passenger overbridge and is looking in a northerly direction, towards Appelby-in-Westmorland on 30/03/2024. Enthusiasts, tourists and locals mix when waiting for preserved British Railways steam locomotive Tangmere - 34067, a former Southern Railways Bullied Light Pacific, to pass through south when hauling The Northern Belle - Carlisle to Manchester Victoria, via Appleby, Ribblehead, Hellifield, Clitheroe, Blackburn and Preston. The remainder of the journey would be hauled by diesel locomotives, passing through Bolton, Salford Central, and Manchester Victoria. Earlier in the day it had traversed the West Coast Main Line with Tangmere joining at Carnforth.
The attractive station buildings on the southbound platform were built in 1875 to the same spec. as the Settle and Appleby Stations. Part of the building now comprises of self catering holiday cottages. Some details taken from
