Also known as Kirkby Stephen(West) Station and situated on the Settle - Carlisle line, this view was taken from the passenger overbridge and is looking in a northerly direction, towards Appelby-in-Westmorland on 30/03/2024. Enthusiasts, tourists and locals mix when waiting for preserved British Railways steam locomotive Tangmere - 34067, a former Southern Railways Bullied Light Pacific, to pass through south when hauling The Northern Belle - Carlisle to Manchester Victoria, via Appleby, Ribblehead, Hellifield, Clitheroe, Blackburn and Preston. The remainder of the journey would be hauled by diesel locomotives, passing through Bolton, Salford Central, and Manchester Victoria. Earlier in the day it had traversed the West Coast Main Line with Tangmere joining at Carnforth.

The attractive station buildings on the southbound platform were built in 1875 to the same spec. as the Settle and Appleby Stations. Part of the building now comprises of self catering holiday cottages. Some details taken from www.settle-carlisle.co.uk. © Peter Steel 2024.

The Rossio Railway Station - Estação de Caminhos de Ferro do Rossio is located in the Rossio Square - Praça Dom Pedro IV. The station was formerly known as Estação Central (Central Station) and that designation still appears in its façade. Trains gain access to the station, which is in the central urban area of Lisbon, through a tunnel, which is over 2.9 km (1.8 miles) long. It was commissioned by the Portuguese Royal Railway Company and was designed between 1886 and 1887 by Portuguese architect José Luís Monteiro. This station also houses a Starbucks coffee bar, a tourist information centre and Destination Lisbon Hostel.

The Rossio is the popular name of the King Pedro IV Square - Praça Dom Pedro IV. It is located in the Pombaline Downtown, in the Baixa district of Lisbon and has been one of its main squares since the Middle Ages. It has been the setting of popular revolts and celebrations, bullfights and executions, and is now a preferred meeting place of Lisbon natives and tourists alike. Centrally located, to the north of the square is the Teatro Nacional, and to the south is the pedestrian Rua Augusta. It is also an important transport hub with bus, train and metro stations.
