In total Reading bought twenty of these smart DAFs, with this example being new in the first batch of ten, 501-10, G501-10XBL, in 09/1989. In my opinion, this combination was more than an adequate replacement of the Leyland National 2 from at least a passenger point of view. I thought these were lovely buses whenever I had the chance to sample one. It is seen here on layover at Station Hill, Reading, near Reading Railway Station on 17/05/1991. At this time, Reading Transport were in the process of being re-named and re-liveried to Reading Buses so even though the buses were well kept, apart from the missing wheeltrim on this DAF, there were about five different liveries.

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being the excellent 'Fujichrome' colourslide.

Burnely & Pendle had a very much mixed fleet for their single-deck needs. Seven of the Leyland National 2 buses were bought new with them arriving in 03/1980, 44-50, XRN44-50V. 45 is seen here on layover at Preston Bus Station prior to working Service 280 to Skipton. This service since has been in the hands of Burnley & Pendle's successor, Blazefield/Transdev however, it is now operated by Stagecoach under contract from Lancashire County Council. Just sneaking into the photo alongside is Bluebird, Moston, AAL594A, a Plaxton Paramount 3200 Express bodied Leyland Tiger TRCTL11/3R. New to National Welsh(UC1205), in 07/1983, registered SDW921Y. It arrived at Bluebird via Cynon Valley Transport.

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being a Boots Colourslide II.

As well as the previously mentioned Volvo B10M coach to bus conversions and the large batch of Alexander bodied B10M Citybus, Grey-Green also bought six of these East Lancs bodied Scania double-decks, 109/10, E109/10JYV and 111-4, E111-4KYN. 112, new in 02/1988, is seen here arriving at Walthamstow Bus Station on 24/08/1992.

Seen here at Walthamstow Bus Station, on 24/08/1992, this Dominator was new to Frontrunner South East(265), Dagenham, in 01/1991, in a batch of twenty-four.

Capital Citybus was formerly known as Ensignbus and was the trading name of Frontrunner South East and Walthamstow Citybus Ltd. Ensignbus had been involved in tendered operations since 06/1986 with Fruntrunner South East being acquired from Stagecoach three years later with the LRT and commercial services becoming known as Ensign Citybus in 07/1990. Frontrunner was then sold to Hong Kong based CNT Group in 12/1990. The separate Walthamstow Citybus operation began in Autumn 1991 when some of the areas routes were taken over under LRT tendering from London Forrest. London Forrest being wound up by London Transport in 11/1991.

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being the excellent 'Fujichrome' colourslide.

The Sanos was a Yugoslavian licence-built Mercedes O303. A total of 27 examples entered UK service between 1988-92 with Shearings taking a pair, unmistakably this one, and sister G895VNA, in 05/1990. In fact, Lyles took them both off Shearings! Buy one, get one free was it? The Sanos was marketed in the UK by Purfleet based Ensign dealership and bus operator as the Charisma. Although looking neat, little has been done here by Lyles to the livery of it's former owner. It is seen here at Walney Community Centre, Central Drive, Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness, in early 04/1993. It had probably brought a West Yorkshire based amateur rugby league team to play at the nearby Walney Central ARLFC ground of which the changing rooms can be seen just behind the coach to the left of the photo.
