Preserved and operated by Thornes, Hemingbrough, and used on classic tours, this rare Beadle-Leyland was new to Maidstone & District, in 03/1952. This early integral vehicle is seen here at Bodafon Farm Fields, Llandudno, Wales, on display at the Llandudno Transport Festival, part of the town's Victorian Extravaganza, on 05/05/2013. © Peter Steel 2013.

This rare Beadle-Leyland was new to Maidstone & District, in 03/1952. An early integral vehicle, it is seen here at Bolton Abbey Railway Station, of the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, during the Aire Valley Transport Group Rally & Running Day on 08/10/2006. This event now works out of Skipton Bus Station with a static display at Coach Street Car Park, Skipton. This Beadle-Leyland is now, or maybe was at the time even, with Thornes, Hemingbrough, for use on classic hire and tours.

The camera being a Pentax MZ-M with the film being a Jessops Colourslide.

New to Golden Boy, Roydon, in 09/1981, this Leopard passed to Maidstone & District's New Enterprise operation, and numbered 4770, in 1983. It also was once numbered 2144 in the main fleet. It has now reverted back to it's original reg. having also been YSU873 & YKP975X. It is seen here looking smart when on display at a rally behind the old Leyland Motors works, now the Paccar plant, at Leyland, on 10/07/2005. I don't think it carried the name 'Katie' or carried Invictaway branding with M & D, although I could be wrong on the latter. Since this photo was taken, it has since been preserved in 'National' white with National Travel West fleetnames, although it was never operated by them.

The camera being a Pentax MZ-M with the film being a Fujichrome Colourslide.

This DP seated National was new to Maidstone & District numbered 2903, in 06/1977. It is seen here on Maidstone High Street operating through to Staplehurst on Limited Stop service 5. It is passing scruffy Bor'line Maidstone Alexander AV bodied Volvo-Ailsa, 918, NSP322R. It was new to Tayside Regional Transport(322), in 01/1976.

Judging by the state of the majority of Boro'line vehicles on this visit, I think the business was on it's knees and was suffering under competition from Bygone and Maidstone & District with the latter being the winner in the Maidstone Bus Wars. Boro'line folded in 1992 with Bygone not lasting much longer I believe. Still, there was plenty of variety.

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being the excellent 'Fujichrome' colourslide.

New to M&D in 09/1988, in a batch of ten, 5891-90, F891-90DKK, this smart Olympian is seen here on Maidstone High Street on 16/05/1991. During this visit to Maidstone, the majority of the M&D vehicles were in exemplary condition, in total contrast to the arms length council owned Boro'line Maidstone, which judging by their vehicles on this visit, the business was on it's knees. In fact, it folded during the following year after suffering from competition with M&D and Bygone Buses. M&D won the battle with Biddenden based Bygone Buses also ceasing in 1992, although their vehicles looked well looked after.

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being the excellent 'Fujichrome' colourslide.
