New to the then Proudmutual owned Kentish Bus(510), in 09/1989. Proudmutual also owned Northumbria Motor Services, hence the North-East reg. numbers and later became part of British Bus. It has also operated for the Bee Line Buzz Co., Manchester and is seen here on display at the Manchester Museum of Transport, Boyle Street, for their 'Christmas Cracker' event on 04/12/2016. © Peter Steel 2016.

When de-regulation began in 10/1986, the minibus was king. Various designs sprung up at first with the early ones being based on van derived chassis, thus gaining the nickname 'Breadvans'. This Transit was new to Alder Valley(South), in 10/1986, with Carlyle finishing the coachwork on a Dormobile shell. Passing onto Kentish Bus and being used as a 'Staff Bus', it is seen here at Bromley North, on 13/08/1996. It as previously with Boro'line Maidstone, with the same fleetnumber and for the same use.

The camera being a Praktica MTL3 with the film being a Boots Colourslide. Unfortunately, the pigment of this next batch of colourslides has altered, as I left it for the best part of two years prior to developing for some reason.

I would request, as with all my photos, that they are not copied or downloaded in any way, shape or form. © Peter Steel 1996.

The fabulous Park Royal/Roe bodied AN68's. London Country, Southdown and Ribble took these in some numbers, this example being new to the former in 04/1981 transferring to London Country(South East), later known as Kentish Bus, on the split of LCBS in 09/1986. Kentish Bus was re-named from London Country(South East) in 04/1987. In 07/1994, the fast-expanding British Bus group purchased Proudmutual, British Bus themselves being purchased by the Cowie group in 08/1996. Cowie now known of course as Arriva. This gaudily painted Atlantean is seen here progressing down High Street, Bromley, en-route for Tunbridge Wells, on 13/08/1996.

New to Kentish Bus, in 01/1994, this Volvo B6 was delivered in a batch of twelve spread over two months. The North-East registration plates were as a result of Kentish Bus being owned, at the time of delivery, by Proudmutual, the owners of Northumbria Motor Services. Kentish Bus was re-named from London Country(South East) in 04/1987. London Country(South East) was formed from the split of London Country in 09/1986. In 07/1994, the fast-expanding British Bus group purchased Proudmutual, British Bus themselves being purchased by the Cowie group in 08/1996. Cowie now known of course as Arriva. 204 is seen here arriving at Stratford Bus Station, in the east of London, on 01/11/1995. I think it ended it's working days with Arriva Midlands, with Chase branding.

Kentish Bus won a contract for the replacement bus service between Stratford and North Woolwich, for the North London line while Canning Town and West Ham stations were rebuilt to accommodate the Jubilee Line. This ran for around 18 months from 05/1994, so this photo must have been taken shortly before the end of the contract when this Lynx was seen here in Stratford, on 01/11/1995. It was new to the now defunct Boro'line Maidstone(811), in 10/1989, and it's last known operator was McKindless, Wishaw, Scotland. Boro'line were the arms length operation of Maidstone Borough Council and were previously known as Maidstone Borough Transport. Boro'line folded in 1992. Kentish Bus was re-named from London Country(South East) in 04/1987. London Country(South East) was formed from the split of London Country in 09/1986. It was owned by Proudmutual, the owners of Northumbria Motor Services. In around 07/1994, the fast-expanding British Bus group purchased Proudmutual, British Bus themselves being purchased by the Cowie group in 08/1996. Cowie now known of course as Arriva.
