A strange sight within the boundaries of Greater London, was this Titan that had been converted to single-door layout and painted in Stagecoach 'stripes', the then national standard livery for Stagecoach and one by which they will be best remembered. Buses within Greater London were required to be painted red, or the majority of the bus had to be red. New to London Transport, in 07/1981, as a standard dual-doored Titan and one of the earlier Leyland bodied examples, after production had shifted from Park Royal to the Leyland National plant at Lillyhall, Cumbria, it entered service from Upton Park, in 08/1981. In 08/1985, it went to North Street, Romford. It can't have been a well liked bus, as two months later, it was moved to Bow and West Ham in quick succession. A month later, it went to Plumstead. In 03/1986, it went to Ash Grove where it seemed to settle down prior to moving to Bromley in 02/1990. In 09/1994, it transferred into the hands of the newly privatised Stagecoach Selkent fleet. This was at the time when the London Buses subsidiary units were in the process of being privatised. In 09/1995, it received this single-door conversion, painted in this livery and transferred to Leyton, thus coming under Stagecoach East London operation. A reasonably lucky photo this, as it was transferred to North Street, Romford, in 10/1995, it's depot when seen here at Stratford, on 01/11/1995. In 01/1996, it was transferred to Stagecoach South Coast Buses(7282) prior to being loaned back to Stagecoach East London, for use out of North Street, again, in 04/1996. In 06/1997, it moved to Stagecoach Devon(950) then moving onto the Bayline operation three months later. c.05/2000, it passed to Hardwick(dlr), Carlton, for scrap. I'm unsure what service it was operating here, if one at all. A 656 or a 723x?

First of all, apologies for the motion blur. More than likely due to a low film speed. This Dennis Lance is seen here in Ilford, on 01/11/1995, heading for Leytonstone. Sixteen of these dual-doored Lance's were bought new by London Buses, in 05/1992, with all entering service from Catford, and passing into the privatised Stagecoach Selkent, fleet in 10/1994. In 07/1995, all moved the Barking garage of Stagecoach East London. In 1997, all were converted to single-door and transferred to Stagecoach Ribble at Bolton, in 01/1997 and 04/1997, this being in the latter month and numbered 187. In 04/2001, they all moved on again, this time to Blazefield Lancashire United, together with the Bolton operations of Stagecoach Ribble and in 08/2002, all passed to Blue Bus, Bolton. Apart from LA16, all passed to Arriva North West, on takeover, in 07/1995, this one being numbered 1927. In 07/2006, it was sold to Glasgow based dealer, Blythswood. It was later bought by Campbells, Alexandria, in 05/2009. These details and more can be found at the excellent www.countrybus.org/Lance/LA_a.htm#fleet.

London Buses bought two batches of these smart Delta's for East London work. DA10 was a demonstrator, with dual doorway but dual-purpose seating, and went on loan to Seven Kings garage early in 1991. It was taken into London Buses' stock in July. DA11-29 arrived the following spring, also for use at Seven Kings, primarily on routes 129 and 148. They initially wore this startling new livery of silver grey with red skirts and stripes, which suited their lines, if not the transport officials and politicians. DA30-35 arrived in 1993, after the earlier batch, including DA24, seen here in Ilford, on 01/11/1995, had been moved en-masse to Barking for use on the 169, and new supplemental 369, in 03/1993. All passed to Stagecoach East London, on privatisation in 09/1994, and donned the company's London livery of unadorned red, however, this one still carried the silver livery as can be seen here. New in 05/1992, and after use at Barking, it moved to Plumstead in 07/2001, for use as a driver trainer. It was re-numbered 26024, in the Stagecoach national re-numbering scheme and transferred to Bow, in 11/2006, again for training duties. In 06/2007, it moved to Waterden Road, as a driver trainer and then to Rainham, for the same duties, in 12/2007, after Waterden road closed. Staying in the London area, it moved onto Leyton, in 04/2009, also as a trainer. Two months later, it was repainted red, only to be sold in 09/2009, to Ripley(dlr), Carlton, for scrap, via Ensign Bus, Purfleet. These details and more can be found at countrybus.org/DA/DA_a.htm#fleet.
