This view was taken from Baluard de Sant Juame - Sant Juame Bastion, Dalt Vila, Ibiza Old Town. Up above is the Baluard de Sant Jordi. Baluard de Sant Juame is a fabulous viewpoint and historical landmark near the Castell de Eivissa(Castle of Ibiza). The bastions of Sant Jaume and San Jordi were the first to be built. The bastion of Sant Jaume is oriented towards the city of Ibiza, in the lowest, weakest part of the medieval enclosure. It belongs to the Renaissance walled enclosure of Dalt Vila, built in the 16th century for the defence of the city. In this bastion you can find a weapons interpretation centre, which shows different military technologies used between the 16th and 18th centuries. It has a casemate and cannons that defended the place from possible attacks by sea. To the left can be seen Parador de Ibiza, Castell d’Eivissa – Ibiza Castle. How the hell was planning permission granted? I know now after reading further. Instigated by the local government, it will be a 66 bedroom hotel, due to be open around the time of when this photo was uploaded(early 2025). lavozdeibiza.com/en/current-news/opening-of-the-parador-d....

This iconic landmark that stands atop the Dalt Vila, the historic Old Town of Ibiza. This imposing medieval fortress is an assortment of numerous buildings that span centuries (including the Moorish-era Tower of Homage, the 8th century Almudaina Moorish keep, the former governor’s home and the 18th century infantry barracks), reflecting the island’s strategic importance and the influence of various civilizations that have ruled over the region. Its origins can be traced back to the 7th century BC when the Phoenicians settled in Ibiza. Recognising the strategic significance of the elevated site, they constructed a fortified settlement to protect themselves from potential threats. Over time, the Phoenicians were succeeded by the Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, and Byzantines, each leaving their marks on the fortress.
