Built at York works in 1979/80, the 508's have worked mostly on Merseyrail since 1983 and have since been refurbished by Alstom at it's Eastleigh Works. Now around thirty-six years old, they are some of the oldest EMUs in service on the UK mainland rail network, only Class 313s being older. New to BR Southern Region as four-car sets, they were converted to three-car sets for use on Merseyrail. This one is seen here arriving at Hunts Cross, Liverpool, from Southport, on 30/09/2015. More details can be found at www.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_508. © Peter Steel 2015.
