A total of 327 of these were built from 1961-67. They were powered by a Sulzer 6LDA28-B, had a max. speed of 90m.p.h., were nicknamed 'Rats' and were primarily built for freight although a large number were later fitted with steam heating for passenger services. This one was new as D7551 and was built at BR Derby in 1965 and finally withdrawn in January 1987. More details can be found at www.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_25. When this photo was taken at Carnforth, c.03/1978, the loco. was based at Kingmoor, Carlisle.
The film used was a GAF 400, but I'm unsure of the camera used. It may still have been my then trusty Halina 1000. The camera after that being another one which lasted quite well, a Praktica MTL3, although after looking through this next batch of slides, I'm unsure which.
I would request, as with all my photos, that they are not copied or downloaded in any way, shape or form. © Peter Steel 1978.
