In Regional Railways livery, this Class 37 was released from English Electric Vulcan Foundry, as D6992, on 05/07/1965, and allocated to Canton, Wales. It was re-numbered through TOPS to 37292, in 02/1974. It was again re-numbered, on 09/04/1986, to 37425. It was named Sir Robert McAlpine / Concrete Bob at Fort William, Scotland, on 14/10/1986. Both would be detached at Bury Bolton Street and replaced by preserved British Railways - Class 47 - 'Beeching's Legacy' 47830, which would lead, and Freightliner - Class 70 70014.
On the opposite platform is preserved former British Railways - Class 47 - 47765 - Brush Traction Type 4. 47765 was built to a Brush Traction design by British Railways at Crewe works in 12/1964 as number D1643, being renumbered 47059 in 07/1973. It was fitted with electric train heating equipment, being renumbered 47631 in 11/1985 and it was named Ressaldar at Crewe Diesel Traction Maintenance Depot in 09/1993. It was fitted with RCH jumper cables and twin fuel tanks for use on ‘Railnet’ services, being renumbered 47765 in 02/1994. It was transferred to Rail Express Systems on 01/04/1995 as part of the privatisation of British Railways. Rail Express Systems was purchased by North and South Railways on 09/12/1995, North and South Railways being renamed as English Welsh & Scottish Railway Limited on 10/07/1996. 47765 was placed in store at Bristol Barton Hill TMD in 03/2000 and was moved to the Defence, Evaluation and Research Agency at Ministry of Defence Shoeburyness in 09/2002 for use as a static generator. It moved to the Mid-Hants Railway in 02/2003 for the same purpose and after the work was completed was moved by road to the Springs Branch Component Recovery and Distribution Centre in 07/2003. Restored in ScotRail livery, it is now based at the East Lancashire Railway. It is working Service 1J61 12:30 Heywood - Bury Bolton Street - Burrs Country Park - Summerseat - Ramsbottom - Irwell Vale - Rawtenstall, due to arrive at Rawtenstall at 13:40. This service was hauled by preserved British Railways - Class 20 - 20066 - English Electric Type 1. In Regional Railways livery, this Class 37 was released from English Electric Vulcan Foundry, as D6992, on 05/07/1965, and allocated to Canton, Wales. It was re-numbered through TOPS to 37292, in 02/1974. It was again re-numbered, on 09/04/1986, to 37425. It was named Sir Robert McAlpine / Concrete Bob at Fort William, Scotland, on 14/10/1986. Meanwhile, on the right of the photo is preserved British Railways - Class 35 - D7076 Hymek. Built at Beyer Peacock(Hymek) Ltd., Manchester, in 1963, with a Maybach MD870 unit, this rare loco. had a short life in being withdrawn in 05/1976. These two fine diesel locomotives are seen here in the Bury Bolton Street sidings of the East Lancashire Railway during their Summer Diesel Gala on 28/06/2024. On the right of the photo, is preserved British Railways - Class 37 - 37109 - English Electric Type 3. A total of 309 of this class were built between 1960-5 and split between English Electric's Vulcan Foundry and Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns Ltd which was part of English Electric from 1955. Nicknamed 'Tractors' due to their sound, this particular example is based at the East Lancashire Railway which arrived from EWS in 2008. Built in 1962 at the Vulcan Foundry it has been preserved in BR Blue but received this Trainload Metals livery, a livery it wore in service, making its debut at the previous year's gala in 07/2023. On the left of the photo is preserved British Railways - Class 45 - 45108 - Sulzer Type 4. This class were nicknamed 'Peaks.' 45108 was new to Derby in 12/1962 numbered D120.
