This Hunslet was purchased as an incomplete loco. and is ex of MoD Lydd, Kent. Prior to that, it worked at MoD Eastriggs, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. It has been completely overhauled, restored to full working order and is in standard MoD paint finish. It has a 3 cylinder 28hp Perkins water cooled engine and hydraulic transmission. Weighing four tons, it has a maximum speed of 4mph. It is seen here outside one of the sheds of the GVLR which is based at the Midland Railway's large Swanwick Junction Museum Complex, Ripley, Derbyshire. The Golden Valley Light Railway is based at the Midland Railway's large Swanwick Junction Museum Complex, Ripley, Derbyshire. It is a 610mm, 2ft narrow gauge railway. More details can be found here at www.gvlr.org.uk/. The steam locomotive seen here is a preserved imported Orenstein and Koppel 0-4-0WT, No. 7529, dating from 1914. The rear coach is preserved Ashover Light Railway Coach No. 4. It was built by the Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Company, in 1924, and ran on the Ashover Light Railway from its opening in 1925 until passenger traffic ended in 1936. After being in storage at Clay Cross Works, it moved to the adjacent bowling green in 1954 and remained there until it was acquired by the GVLR in 2007.
