These two fine diesel locomotives are seen here in the Bury Bolton Street sidings of the East Lancashire Railway during their Summer Diesel Gala on 28/06/2024. On the right of the photo, is preserved British Railways - Class 37 - 37109 - English Electric Type 3. A total of 309 of this class were built between 1960-5 and split between English Electric's Vulcan Foundry and Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns Ltd which was part of English Electric from 1955. Nicknamed 'Tractors' due to their sound, this particular example is based at the East Lancashire Railway which arrived from EWS in 2008. Built in 1962 at the Vulcan Foundry it has been preserved in BR Blue but received this Trainload Metals livery, a livery it wore in service, making its debut at the previous year's gala in 07/2023. On the left of the photo is preserved British Railways - Class 45 - 45108 - Sulzer Type 4. This class were nicknamed 'Peaks.' 45108 was new to Derby in 12/1962 numbered D120.
