This magnificent building is an 18th-century Georgian country house situated about one mile from the centre of the genteel coastal resort. It is in 80 acres of wooded parkland and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, the only one in the Borough of Fylde. It was once the ancestral home of the colourful Clifton Family, spanning over four centuries. The site and its parkland are of great archaeological interest dating back to the 12th century when it was home to a priory of Benedictine monks. Sir Cuthbert Clifton built a Jacobean Manor House on this site in 1606 and much of the Jacobean building still exists. In 1752 Thomas Clifton commissioned John Carr of York to build this fine palladian house which we see today. See www.lythamhall.org.uk/ for more details of this fine building. This photo was taken during the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust's Lytham Hall Rally & Running Day, on 17/07/2022. This is one of several events that take place here during the year. © Peter Steel 2022.
