This Diesel Mechanical Shunter was built in 1944 by the Leeds based Hunslet Engine Co. She is powered by a Gardner 813 204hp unit. The engine was named “Huskisson” in memory of the eminent Liverpool politician who died on the opening day of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in 1830. It was the first diesel locomotive purchased by the Mersey Docks & Harbour Board and the whole of this engine’s working life was spent hauling freight in and out of the docks, warehouses and goods yard on the Liverpool waterfront. Faced with the continuing decline in docks traffic, it was decided in 1970 that the older locomotives in the diesel fleet should be sold off and this was the first to be offered for sale. It is seen here resting at Keighley after having worked in from Ingrow West on the 09:10 shuttle service. It would then work the 10:55 return service.

A total of 56 of this class were built between 1963-5, all at BR Swindon Works, this one in 1965. Powered by a Paxman Ventura, they could reach a speed of 40m.p.h. Nicknamed Teddy Bears they only had short lives with BR.
