This class is known as a Flex unit being converted from electric Class 319s - 319/0 and 319/4 Phase 1 units as this one was. Two MAN D2876 diesel engines are fitted, one under each driving car which drive ABB alternators. The conversions took place at Brush Loughborough. Not known for their reliability, these can attain a speed of 85mph(diesel) and 100mph(electric). The pantograph has just been raised on this one when awaiting departure from Bolton on 22/03/2023.
